Exeter Raspberry Jam 5th December 2016

Another excellent pi jam with quite a bit going on.  On arrival the room was already set up with about 8 Raspberry Pis set up for use by visitors,  two of which had Speakers attached so users could have a go with Sonic Pi.
Pi Workstations set up for use.
You can have a go at :
  • Scratch
  • Sonic Pi
  • Minecraft-Pi
  • Minecraft Pi programming
  • And much more.
Lego / Scratch project
Ivan brought along a project using lego, lights and using scratch to control the lights as a  Christmas themed demo.

This is Toms latest project (or one of them) using a compass module attached to the Arduino Nano.

This is Toms snake game,  with more improvements from the previous Tech jam.

This is part of a future project,  a robot controlled by a NE555 timer bought from Banggood,  Tom is going to try and integrate an arduino inside and give it an OLED display with LEDs etc.  Work in progress as he only got it yesterday.

An improved mood light,  with 2 tri-colour LEDs,   Which has also all been soldered up.

Finally this is the Pi Zero,  which unless you have been living in a cave the past few weeks is the new Raspberry Pi.   This is my one,  still in the blister pack but need a few more parts to get it up and running.

Exeter Raspberry Jam 3rd October

Another well attended jam at Exeter Library and again we were in the Rougemont Room to give us some more space. We had some demos from Ivan Roulson

Have a look at his website for lots of great ideas.

We also had some brief introductory sessions in scratch, python (how to make an led flash) and sonic pi (although one of our sonic pi computers was taken over by minecraft):

Minecraft was again incredibly popular and maybe we will do a minecraft special in the future.

We also had a chance to look at the updated Raspian OS:

Next jam will be on 7th November - hope to see you there.

Exeter Raspberry Jam 5/9/15

A well attended jam where we had a number of Raspberry Pis set up and waiting for people to try minecraft, scratch and sonic pi. Sonic pi seemed particularly popular.

We saw a number of new people; someone who wanted help designing a game using pygame (Paul Sutton gave lots of help here) and someone who wanted help with an Arduino (we are not exclusively Raspberry Pi). There were also a few people who had heard of the Raspberry Pi but not seen one. I think I may have persuaded at least one person to get one so we hope to see him again at a later date showing us what he's been up to.

On show we had some robots from Tom Brough, one controlled via an xbox controller through the pi and then via bluetooth to an Arduino on board the chassis.

This jam we held in the Rougemont Room in Exeter Library rather than Meeting Room One where it's been before. This gave us a lot more space and for the next jam we will try having one side of the room very informal (as usual) and the other side more structured, maybe a bit of minecraft or flashing an led using python.

The next jam is on Saturday 3rd October 10 – 12 in the Rougemont Room, Exeter Library.

This is from the Exeter Pi jam on 4th July 2015. Built by Ivan at RPI kitchen, https://rpikitchen.wordpress.com/torbay tech jam

Raspberry jam 7th March

Today saw another really good Pi jam in Exeter.

Demonstrations included a Pi based home automation system,  which also included a webcam which takes a photo of whoever presses the doorbell and e-mails you a picture.

Toms latest robot (crazy Ivan)  this moves around, and can turn randomly and move forward again.

Sadly marco mark 2 had a problem, so was here but just not working as planned.

Pi Ready for eager coders to use.

Lots of people with new Pi’s in need of set up. so I did quite a bit of support here,  also minecraft-pi was popular and people seemed to like my modification which drops tnt blocks over grass.
Robots will make another appearance at next weeks Torbay Pi Jam 14th March, Paignton Library from 13:00
